Highlands incorporates fiber optic technology

Lake lure, nc (February 19, 2007) – Highlands Mountain Properties (HMP), announced a deal today with Connexion Technologies that will bring fiber optic technology to the company’s newest mountain property, The Highlands of Walnut Creek.  The deal will provide homeowners at Walnut Creek the most reliable telecommunication and cable package available in Western North Carolina and state-of-the-art Internet and communitywide wireless internet access.

“Providing reliable and speedy technology is a very unique feature for mountain communities,” said Michael Hager, HMP developer. “Our residents are families who work hard and play hard.  Whether a student is working on homework, a grandparent is downloading first birthday videos or a businessperson is completing a transaction from the comfort of his second home, Walnut Creek designed to meet high demands of all those who call them home.

“This fiber optic infrastructure allows our residents to connect to a blazing fast network that can meet their current and future technology needs,” Hager continued. “We set a high standard for our communities, including the technology comforts of our residents. We only want them to have the best.”

By providing fiber optic wiring directly to each home, HMP residents will enjoy more than 1,000 times the bandwidth provided by traditional coaxial cable. In addition, residents will receive wireless Internet access at multiple common areas in the neighborhood.

“A single piece of fiber can handle all telephone, Internet, cable television and security needs,” said Glen Lang, chief executive officer of Connexion Technologies. “Fiber optic wiring is more reliable and faster than traditional wiring — and it has enough bandwidth to accommodate the growth of future technology.”

By bundling telecommunications services in a single amenities package, savings for each resident will be up to 30 percent off the cost of traditional telecommunications services.

“Combining the beauty of the mountains with the cutting edge technology of Fiber Optics was our true vision when designing this community. We are always planning for the future and installing fiber wiring in our communities was a smart move because not only is it a great amenity for our residents, but studies show that it significantly increases property values,” Don Odom said, HMP’s other developer.

A recent study conducted by an independent research firm estimates that fiber optic infrastructure increases lot values by an average of $4,000 to $15,000, compared to traditional copper wiring or coaxial cables.

Along with the fiber optic technology amenity offered by HMP, the gated community of Highlands of Walnut Creek also includes access limited to residents and guests, home sites from .5 to 2.5 acres, underground utilities for clean design and safety, manicured fitness/walking trails, recreational parks and reserves, dramatic scenic cliff and mountain views and a prime, secluded location within 15 minutes of Tryon, Columbus, Rutherfordton and Lake Lure, NC. Future plans for the community include a clubhouse, swimming pool, fitness center, an equestrian area with pasture and barn and a 27-acre recreational lake contingent on NC State Permit.

Highlands of Walnut Creek which will be having their Phase 1 Grand Opening this July, will be offering pre-development pricing in the low $50,000s. The community will be broken into three distinct sections that will feature equestrian sites, village/cottage sites and estate homesites. Proposed amenities for the community include: community clubhouse, walking trails, equestrian center and a signature waterfall entrance feature.
